At first glance, the Sleepbuds II seem like a set of very small earplugs. And they are, only they can’t play music. Some preset sounds that should calm you down and mask annoying sounds that wake you up. To overcome the price bump of 270 euros, Bose offers a non-binding test period of 90 days. Very smart, because in practice it turns out that you really have to give the Sleepbuds II a chance to prove itself.
Round charging and storage box
The Sleepbuds II come in a luxury box with a built-in battery. This charges the mini batteries of the earbuds. This is necessary after every night because they have a battery life of up to 10 hours. In itself more than enough, also for late sleepers. You just have to be careful that you put the earbuds in the box properly. Incidentally, this is quite easy because the orientation is guided by magnets. Once it went wrong and then I only had a charge in the caps for half a night.
thin caps
The plugs are very thin, much thinner than regular earplugs, so you can easily lie on one ear without them pressing annoyingly into your ear canal. Three different sizes of tips are included so that one always fits. We also see this with regular earplugs. They close nicely so that some ambient noise is muffled if you only have them in. The rest is taken care of by ‘distraction sound’ that you can set in the Bose Sleep app. You can choose from over 50 sounds, ranging from rippling water to background noise.
Search for the right sleep aid
And that’s where your search begins. Because not every sound will help you with your sleeping problem. Fortunately, you can schedule different sounds and behaviors. It really does take you a few nights to find out which sound works best and how long that sound should play. It is also getting used to your own breathing and heartbeat, which you suddenly hear much better with closed ears. For those who fall asleep easily and wake up too early, it is even more difficult to find out whether the Bose Sleepbuds II are suitable. You should definitely expect a week or more to fall asleep awkwardly, so ideally plan it in a ‘quieter’ period, for example a holiday.
Handy is the possibility to set an alarm or to forward certain telephone calls. Your Sleepbuds will then sound a friendly but clear alarm.
Conclusion
For difficult sleepers and sleepers, the Bose Sleepbuds II can be a godsend. But you can’t help it either. That’s why it’s nice that Bose has a generous period of 90 days to try them out. If you don’t like them, you can return them and get your money back. Do you have sleeping problems? Try them out and don’t give up after a few days (nights). Stick with it for a few weeks and you’ll know for sure if it’s worth it or not.
