Brewer’s yeast is a natural dietary supplement and is not only suitable for brewing beer. The many valuable ingredients have a positive effect on the body and our appearance.

Brewer’s yeast consists of yeast-like fungi and is a good source of B vitamins. Our body cannot produce these itself, so we have to get them through food.

While pure brewer’s yeast is not recommended for the human stomach, you can find a mild and tolerable form of brewer’s yeast in health food stores. They are available in tablet, powder or flake form.

Brewer’s yeast is rich in nutrients. In addition to vitamin B1, B3, B5, B7 (also known as biotin) and folic acid, these also include magnesium, iron, copper, zinc as well as potassium and phosphates. At the same time, the yeast contains no sugar and is low in sodium.

The substances biotin and zinc contained in brewer’s yeast in particular have an influence on our skin:

  • The combination of ingredients ensures that the cells can regenerate more quickly. Cell metabolism is activated, inflammation is inhibited and new cell growth is stimulated. This makes the skin and our connective tissue more resilient.
  • The skin appears younger and healthier as it becomes more elastic. Dry skin areas or itching can also be improved by taking biotin and zinc. This is helpful, for example, for eczema, impure skin or poorly healing wounds.

If you suspect that your skin condition is due to a lack of biotin or zinc, you can take brewer’s yeast as a dietary supplement.

Important: We recommend that you generally pay attention to a balanced diet and only take high-quality brewer’s yeast as a supplement. If you are unsure, seek medical advice first.

Brewer’s yeast not only makes the skin but also the hair more resilient. The B vitamins and zinc in particular have a positive influence on the health and appearance of our hair. By strengthening the hair root, the hair becomes better anchored and hair loss is reduced.

Biotin has a positive effect on protein metabolism and can also strengthen the hair. Zinc is important for the body to produce keratin and collagen. They ensure a healthy hair structure and make your hair look healthy and shiny.

For a strong immune system, the body needs a balanced nutrient balance and lots of B vitamins. This means that ingested fats and carbohydrates are metabolized into energy and our defenses are activated. This will make you more resistant to pathogens.

The positive influence of brewer’s yeast on the immune system has so far only been proven in studies with mice and rats. However, the study results suggest that taking it can support the process of numerous chemical processes in the body. Among other things, inflammation could be reduced and your body’s self-healing powers could be activated.

Important: The vitamin B12 content in brewer’s yeast is not enough to cover the daily requirement on a vegan diet. You should therefore supplement vitamin B12 additionally.

By the way: What does brewer’s yeast have to do with beer?

Brewer’s yeast is one of the most important ingredients in brewing beer according to the German Purity Law and ensures fermentation. At the end, however, it is filtered out again to preserve the beer. In the past, breweries left the yeast in the beer. As a result, the beer had a fuller taste, more calories and was healthier.
