Can a walki-talki be used as a radio station? (so as transmitter)

I have an old radio (from WW2) and I would like to receive things with it. Only I don’t have a radio station at home to test … Can I convert an old walki-talki into a radio transmitter, for example on the short wave?

Or can I possibly use my nokia N82 for that in one way or another?

Answer

Dear Sander,

I’m afraid it won’t be that easy to convert one of your devices. What is important is that you know the frequency band in which your receiver operates. Once you know these frequencies, you can check if there are radio stations nearby that you can receive. This is the simplest solution. With a bit of luck you will fall into one of the amateur radio bands, and then a radio amateur can help you, because he has a transmitter. If neither of those works, you can go to a lab where they have frequency generators, which you generate at an appropriate frequency and radiate through an antenna.

I wish you the best of luck and hope you receive it soon.
