Can static electricity continue to flow or does it discharge quickly?

Asker: Tom, 20 years old

Answer

No charge can continue to flow, except in a superconductor.

Static ‘electricity’ is not a current, but a charge that accumulates on an object (under the influence of contact or friction). That static charge can flow away when the charged object is brought into contact with a non-charged object. At that moment the static charge is gone.

Can static electricity continue to flow or does it discharge quickly?
