Can you go to America with a Belgian Triband GSM, buy an American SIM card and then text to Belgium?

I’m going to America for five weeks

and would like to find a way to text cheaply from America to Belgium.

This is possible with a triband GSM. Texting normally works with a Belgian SIM, but calling is more expensive. The cheapest solution is what you propose.
