Carl Pei claims that big company is thwarting Nothing

It is not easy for the young tech company Nothing. Owner Carl Pei says a large company is attacking the supply chain of Nothing. Which company does he leave in the middle for the time being.

Nothing is 1 year old

Carl Pei, who was once the founder of OnePlus, writes in a blog that a large company of the established order is attacking his company by fiddling with the logistics chain. In principle, the blog is not based on that, because he writes it precisely to reflect on a year of Nothing. The company is celebrating its birthday and that is reason for the CEO to reflect on a few milestones, but also that it did not all go smoothly:

“I won’t lie and say it’s all been easy. We googled to build a team of 158, create the brand, launch a first product and make sure we have the fuel ($74 million + funding) to do all that. I am proud that we have all done this amid a pandemic where large parts of the team were unable to work together in person, and amid global supply chain disruptions.”

Competitor Attack

And then there’s the comment about that well-known competitor who, according to Pei, is trying to stop the success of Nothing: “To make things even more fun, we’ve also had a large incumbent attack us in the supply chain for our access to important block components. We should take that as a sign of respect.”

Nothing currently has one product on the market, namely the Nothing Ear 1 true wireless earbuds. To date, 320,000 orders of the Ear 1 earbuds have been placed, of which 180,000 have actually been shipped. Pei hopes to eventually reach 400,000 orders.

Nothing Ear 1 true wireless

In our review of the earbuds, we wrote the following about it: “For the suggested retail price of 99 euros, there is little for sale with the same appearance, wearing comfort and function set. If you think sound is very important, it is better to look for earphones of around 200 euros. That includes if you want the best possible ANC performance. Are those elements high on your wish list, but can you compromise on them to achieve a lower price tag? Then the Nothing Ear (1) should be on your shopping list.”

What do you think, which company would want to thwart Nothing? Leave it in the comments below this article.
