Cases and tips to protect your new iPhone 16

The new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro (Max) can be ordered from today at Apple, online stores and most telecom providers in the Netherlands and Belgium.

If you have ordered an iPhone 16, you will of course be very careful with it. You probably won’t just put it in your trouser pocket with your car keys or other sharp objects. And then there is also gravity. The design of the iPhone 16 is incredibly beautiful, but the bezel (side) remains quite smooth. Thanks to the titanium design, the iPhone has a little more grip, but even with this new device you have to be careful. Especially if your hands are slippery or greasy, it can happen that your brand new iPhone just slips out of your hands.

Of course it is and remains a shame to hide the design of the iPhone 16 (Pro) behind a case. But it is also terribly annoying if it gets damaged. A good reason to look for extra protection for your new iPhone so that it is well protected.

Cases and tips to protect your new iPhone 16

Using a case as basic protection

The basic thing to protect your new iPhone 16 from drops, pesky kids or a night out is using a case. There is a huge range of different iPhone 16 cases available.

The corners of an iPhone are vulnerable, when it falls and lands on one of the corners, damage almost always occurs. These can be scratches in the bezel (the edge around the device), but also cracks or tears in the screen. A case protects the corners of your iPhone with a raised edge and will absorb the impact of the fall to a large extent. If you often do outdoor activities, there are cases available that have an extra thick edge to absorb the fall from a higher height.

The back of the iPhone 16 also deserves extra protection, not only the glass back is vulnerable, but also the camera island. The various lenses on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro protrude and are therefore vulnerable to scratches. Most cases have a raised edge (bumper) that protects the lenses in the event of a fall. This protection is important, because damage to the lenses always remains visible on photos and videos.

When introducing a new iPhone, Apple always releases a new series of cases. Reasonable cases, but with a high Apple premium price tag. In addition, the color choice of Apple’s range is limited and the cases have had the same boring design for years.

At appelhoes.nl you will find a much larger range of different colours and types of covers, which are often also much cheaper.

Some recommendations from the range:

  2. Nomad cases: Rugged cases that can withstand a beating.
  3. Tech Protection MagSafe transparent case: Nice transparent case with magsafe.

Protect your screen from drops and scratches

Although Apple has equipped the iPhone 16 with a scratch-resistant Ceramic Shield, which is twice as strong as its predecessor, it is simply not possible that scratches will appear on the screen of your new iPhone. The new ceramic shield protects against scratches, but certainly not 100%.

As additional protection for the screen, you can apply a screen protector to the screen. You can choose from two variants: a plastic layer or a glass variant. The latter is increasingly preferred and has increased considerably in popularity.

The plastic variant is a kind of transparent sticker that protects the screen from scratches. The plastic screen protectors are very thin and therefore difficult to apply to the screen. If dust or air gets underneath during application, you will always see it. Another disadvantage of a plastic screen protector is that they are made of a fairly soft material, which means that small scratches will appear over time. If there are too many, you will have to remove the screen protector and replace it.

In most cases, a glass screen protector is a better choice. These are made of tempered glass, which gives you an extra glass layer. The glass layer is highly resistant to scratches and will protect the iPhone screen from the impact of the fall in the event of a fall. Depending on the circumstances, the glass of the glass screen protector may crack or tear, but the iPhone screen itself will remain intact.

Applying a glass screen protector is much easier than the plastic version. Many suppliers even provide special molds with which the screen protector can be applied perfectly aligned on the screen.

Some recommendations:

  1. Spigen GlastR EZ Fit iPhone 16 glass screen protector: Very good glass screen protector that you can easily apply to your new iPhone 16 (Pro) using a mold.
  2. Otterbox Privacy iPhone 16 Glass Screen Protector: This glass screen protector has a privacy layer that prevents bystanders from looking at your screen.
  3. PanzerGlass Edge to Edge: Glass screen protector with applicator to apply it to the screen of your new iPhone. Equipped with oleophobic coating that provides an anti-bacterial and anti-fingerprint effect.

Use a reliable USB-C charger

Since the iPhone 12, Apple no longer supplies an iPhone power adapter, so you have to buy one separately. You can buy a cheap charger on one of the Chinese web shops. If you want to be safe, it is better not to do this and spend a little more. Many cheap power adapters with an EU quality mark are sold on Chinese websites that do not meet the guidelines at all. It therefore happens regularly that cheap power adapters catch fire.

So buy a reliable iPhone 15 charger with USB-C connection. If you want to use a MagSafe wireless charger, you need a power adapter of at least 20 watts. Only then can you use the 15 watt fast charging in combination with MagSafe.
