Since iOS 16 you can personalize the access screen of your iPhone and adjust it in detail. This way you can change the font, add widgets, and make creative backgrounds yourself.
If you set a new access screen, you will be asked whether you also want to adjust the background of the home screen. This can be the same background, a modified version or a new one. We explain how you can set a separate background for the access screen.
Set background pair
When you create a new access screen, you will notice that the background for your initial screens is also automatically changed with the same image. As soon as you have finished editing the access screen you will receive a pop-up notification asking to set a background pair.
If you want this, iOS will automatically use the same background or a blurry version as a background for your apps. Do you not want this? Then it is sufficient to tap ‘adjust the home screen’.

You can then adjust the color or expire, select a new photo, keep the original or fade the new background.
Change background home screen
It is also possible to change the background of the home screen afterwards. This way you can set two different backgrounds. Follow the steps below for this.
- Unlock your iPhone
- Open settings
- Go to ‘background’
- Tap ‘adjust’ at the home screen with apps

You can then fade the current image by switching on ‘readability’. The colors of your chosen image are then used, but made blurry. You can also choose a color (course) or new photo.
