You should not only change your underwear every day to feel fresh and comfortable – but also to avoid infections and diseases caused by poor intimate hygiene.
Switching the underwear every day should actually be a matter of course. But almost a quarter of all men wear the underwear for longer than a day. This is shown by a survey by the market research institute GfK on behalf of the online retailer Galaxus under 1,500 Germans between the ages of 16 and 74. With less than ten percent, women are significantly less. But what actually happens if we don’t wash our underwear every day?

The answer is: yes. For a fresh and healthy genital area, you should change your underwear every day. A lack of intimate hygiene can have unsightly consequences:
-
Unpleasant smells: If you do not change your underwear every day, unpleasant smells can arise due to sweat and other body fluids.
-
Infections and diseases: You can also capture infections and illnesses. Women in particular have an increased risk of infection, since urethra, vaginal input and anus are very close together. Infections in the intimate area are not only uncomfortable for you, but also a risk for sexual partners: inside.
The right intimate care is just as important as changing underwear every day. Many tend to cover the genital area. This can interfere with your intimate area as well as a lack of care. Therefore, pay attention to a good balance and avoid nonsensical products for intimate care.
How harmful are synthetic substances for your intimate area?
It is not only important to change the underwear every day: the material of the underpants also plays a role for your intimate hygiene. Substances made of synthetics make you sweat faster than cotton and absorb moisture worse. That is why underpants from synthetic fibers promote the creation of mushrooms or other infectious diseases – especially in women. In addition, you can usually not wash synthetic fibers at more than 40 degrees, which is usually not sufficient to kill all bacteria. So it is better to breathable underwear from natural fibers such as (organic) cotton or linen in organic quality.
