Anyone who uses their iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch intensively needs to charge it every day. This can be done in various ways, traditionally at a low wattage, wirelessly or you can use fast charging.
With faster charging, you can charge some iPhone and iPad models up to 50 percent in about 30 minutes. Some Apple Watch models also support fast charging, giving you the power you need to power through the day in no time.
iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch suitable for fast charging
Unfortunately, not all models are suitable for this fast charging function, below is an overview of the devices with this function well to support:
- iPhone 8, iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone 11 (Pro), iPhone SE 2nd generation, iPhone 12 (Pro) and later
- All iPad Pro models, iPad Air (2019 or later), and iPad mini (2019 or later)
- Apple Watch Ultra, Apple Watch series 7 or newer
Maximum power
Of course, how fast you can charge an iPhone also depends on the wattage. For example, an iPhone 16 (Pro) can handle a maximum of 45 watts, while an iPhone 13 can handle a maximum of 25 watts. Below is an overview:
- iPhone 16 (all models): maximum 45 Watts
- iPhone 13 Pro (Max), iPhone 14 Pro (Max), iPhone 15 Pro (Max): maximum 27 Watts

Suitable power adapter for fast charging
You can charge your iPhone or iPad with different iPhone adaptersbut for fast charging you will usually need an additional accessory, unless you own a MacBook, MacBook Air or MacBook Pro with USB-C ports, an iPad Pro 2018 or later, or an iPhone 11 Pro. If you don’t have one, you will need to purchase a separate adapter:
- MacBook USB-C Power Adapter (29W, 35W, 61W, 87W, 96W or more)
- iPhone or iPad USB-C Power Adapter (18W, 20W, or 30W)
You will also need a USB-C to Lightning cable or USB-C to USB-C cable to even connect your iPhone or iPad to the adapter. For the Apple Watch, you will need an official Magnetic Fast Charger to USB-C Cable required by Apple.
You can also use a MagSafe charger to charge the iPhone 12 or later wirelessly faster. Good to know, the iPhone 12 Pro or later requires a 20W adapter or higher.
Apple Watch fast charging
With fast charging, Apple Watch Series 7 or later can charge from 0 to 80 percent in about 45 minutes, while Apple Watch Ultra or later can charge from 0 to 80 percent in about an hour. Apple Watch Series 10 can charge from 0 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes, when charged with the included Magnetic Fast Charger to USB-C Cable and at least an 18W USB-C Power Adapter.
Charge your iPhone or iPad faster
If you have the correct accessories, connect the cable to the appropriate power adapter and lightning connection or USB-C port on your iPhone or iPad. The device will immediately start charging faster.
When the battery is completely empty, it will charge to at least 50% in 30 minutes. Of course, the iPhone 16 series can charge more in 30 minutes, provided you have the right charger. As with normal charging, the last few percent will take longer than the rest.
Faster wireless charging
Apple has improved wireless charging with MagSafe in the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro by increasing the maximum capacity. For example, with the help of MagSafe you can wirelessly fast charge the device with 25 W, this was 15 W. For this you need a new MagSafe charger and a power adapter of at least 30 W.
