Netflix has announced that its cheapest subscription will be disappearing and replaced by other options. These subscriptions will be available soon!
Cheapest Netflix subscription disappears
Do you currently have the cheapest subscription on Netflix? Then we have bad news, because the streaming service has announced that the Basic subscription will be discontinued. For this subscription you currently pay 8.99 euros per month, you watch films and series in 720p and you can watch on one device at a time. This option will disappear soon and you will have to switch to a new subscription.

In the United Kingdom and Canada, Netflix has begun phasing out its cheapest subscription. Subscribers have been notified that they can use Netflix Basic until July 13. After that, they must switch to a more expensive or cheaper subscription. Netflix is expected to implement the same changes in the Netherlands this year.
Paid subscription with advertising
Netflix Basic users have several options when choosing a new subscription. You can choose the standard subscription, for which you pay 13.99 euros per month. Series and films can then be watched in 1080p and you can watch on two devices at the same time. However, that price is quite high, especially if you currently pay 8.99 euros per month for the cheapest Netflix subscription.
The other option is to opt for a new subscription, which costs only 5.99 euros per month. This subscription has one major disadvantage, because you get to see advertisements between watching. Netflix has not yet launched this cheapest subscription in the Netherlands and Belgium, that will probably happen when the current Basic subscription disappears. The subscription with advertisements will then serve as a replacement for Netflix Basic.
More streaming services are getting advertising
Meanwhile, Netflix is also considering a free subscription with advertising in a number of Asian countries. The chance that this free option will also come to the Netherlands seems small at the moment. It is more likely that we will get the same subscription as in the United Kingdom and Canada, for which you pay 5.99 euros per month. It is not yet clear when the cheapest Netflix subscription will disappear here.
