Apple Silicon for Mac is the transition from traditional Intel processors to Apple’s own ARM-based chips. These new chips offer improved performance, energy efficiency and seamless integration with other Apple devices.
Since the summer of 2023, Apple has no longer sold Macs with Intel chips. All Macs have therefore gone through the transition and are now equipped with an M1 chip or newer. We explain how to check if your Mac has an Apple Silicon or Intel chip.
Mac computers with Apple Silicon
The first Mac with Apple Silicon appeared in 2020 and included the MacBook Air, Mac mini and MacBook Pro. These received the M1 chip, and successors were soon announced, including M1 Pro and M1 Ultra. In recent years, Apple has also announced newer versions such as M2 and M2 Pro.
What chip does my Mac have?
Do you want to check which processor your Mac has? Then follow the steps below.
- Click on  in the menu bar
- Choose ‘About this Mac’
- Check the information under ‘Chip’

You will then immediately see which processor your Mac has built in and is using. Is this an M1 chip or newer? Then it is equipped with an Apple chip. If not? Then it says the Intel and which processor.
