Facebook is rolling out a new feature, where you will receive a notification when you log in to another website or app, and then you can immediately change your privacy settings. You can choose what you share when you log in somewhere. iPhone shows how to do this.
Login notification from Facebook
Nowadays you have to create an account almost everywhere. You often get the option to log in via Facebook, but if you create an account via the social media platform, you do not always know exactly what information you are sharing.
If you log in somewhere with Facebook, companies and organizations can often see your name, e-mail address and date of birth. Facebook is therefore rolling out the new function “Login notifications”. With this you will receive a notification both on Facebook itself and on your e-mail if you have logged in to another (new) app or website.

The login notification is at the same time a warning for the privacy of users. This notification tells you what the user has shared with the app or website, but also that the user can adjust this himself in the settings. Below that is a handy blue button to directly adjust in your settings which information you share as soon as you log in with Facebook.
Manage what you share in the privacy settings
Have you not (yet) received the notification and do you want to adjust which data you share before you log in? Even without the login notification, you can choose what you share in the privacy settings of Facebook. You do that as follows:
- Open the Facebook app and go to the menu (three lines at the bottom right of the screen);
- Tap on ‘Settings and privacy’ and then on ‘Settings’;
- Under the heading Security, tap ‘Apps and websites’;
- Tap on ‘Logged in via Facebook’;
- Under the ‘Active’ tab you will now see a list of all apps where you are currently logged in via Facebook;
- Tap ‘Edit’ next to an app and turn off the sliders next to the data you do not want to share;
- You can also choose to completely remove accounts on apps that you no longer use. You do this by selecting them and tapping ‘Delete’ at the top.
Under the ‘Expired’ tab you can see where you have ever logged in with Facebook, but whose details have already expired. It is still wise to remove these apps from the list as well, as they still have access to your information.
The option to log in with Facebook can also be completely disabled. It is then no longer possible to log in to apps and websites with your Facebook account. To do this, go to ‘Apps, websites and games’ in your privacy settings instead of ‘Logged in via Facebook’ and tap ‘Disable’.
Awareness of privacy
Creators and users of websites and apps are becoming increasingly aware of privacy. Facebook was previously discredited because the social network had shared personal data with a data company. After a $ 5 billion fine, Facebook appears to be improving its life and focusing more on privacy. Do you want to know more? Check out our Facebook privacy tips.
