Chrome will soon let you know if a web form is unsafe

Google goes a step further when it comes to your privacy, especially when you have to enter personal information via a web form. In the future, Chrome may warn users about forms that are on secure HTTPS pages, but do not send the entered data securely.

And that’s a big problem. Insecure forms enable malicious parties to view what you have entered. In any case, the potential for this exists, we do not argue that this happens every time.

The Chrome browser now also has measures for so-called mixed forms. If you are on a page with such a web form, the lock icon will be omitted. That icon should show that it is safe to enter your details, because in this case it cannot be guaranteed. Research with users shows that they do not consider this to be clear communication. As a result, personal data is sometimes still shared in unsafe forms. Google says that in a recently published blog post.

Chrome is committed to secure web forms

In the future, the Google Chrome browser will in any case not automatically fill in the form with the data stored by you. Think of address or credit card details. This way you can be sure that your data does not end up in unsafe web forms.

If you are nevertheless asked to enter certain information via a mixed form, such as login information, you can still use the built-in password manager. That’s the same password manager that can help store unique passwords (which the service proposes itself).

Google states in the same blog that having a unique password for all your profiles is always a safe option. Even when dealing with an insecure web form. If someone still loots your password via the route, they only have access to that account.

Using the same password everywhere is extremely risky. Especially when someone steals your password in this way, because then they may also be able to access other accounts without too much trouble.

When you start entering your data in a mixed form within Chrome, the browser will issue a warning stating that this is not safe. If you go ahead and send the data, the full page will show that this is unsafe. But you still have the option to send the data.
