You probably use an iPad every day. You cannot escape the fact that it becomes dirty over time, although cleaning an iPad is a piece of cake. This will make your tablet spic and span again.
Cleaning an iPad in 3 steps: this is how you do it
The average iPad is very dirty. According to several studies, tablets are even dirtier than a toilet seat. This statement is a bit misleading, since toilets are generally very clean, but you can’t ignore the fact that the average iPad is full of bad bacteria.
It therefore doesn’t hurt to clean your iPad every now and then. This makes your tablet feel fresh again and look like new. Even if you want to get rid of your tablet, this can not hurt. Do you want to clean your iPad before sale, or just make it fresh again? In this guide, we’ll discuss how to clean the exterior and screen of your tablet. The following supplies come in handy:
- Two microfiber cloths
- Cotton swab
- Soft brush
You use the first microfiber cloth to clean the dirty surfaces. The second is to take off the iPad screen. A cotton swab is ideal for removing dust residues. You use the brush to remove sand and coarse dirt.

1. Remove dust and sand
Before we start cleaning the iPad, it is important to turn off the tablet. Also remove any connected cables and other accessories, such as a keyboard.
What many people don’t know is that dust is often full of sand. Therefore, first use the brush to clean both the screen and the casing of the iPad of dust, and thus grains of sand. That way you prevent scratches during the actual cleaning.
2. Clean iPad screen
How should you clean an iPad screen? It’s actually very simple: with a microfiber cloth. You can moisten this a little if necessary. In any case, use never chemicals, window cleaners, or rubbing alcohol.
You gently wipe the first microfiber cloth over the screen of the iPad. Do not use force and make circular movements with your hand while cleaning. That way, the greasiness of the screen will come off. Once you have finished cleaning your iPad screen, use the second microfiber cloth to wipe the display.

3. Clean the charging port
Dust is an iPad’s worst enemy. Eventually, the dirt ends up in all openings of the tablet, including the charging port. This is annoying, because it will eventually charge your iPad less quickly. The dust residues can also get further into the housing, with all that that entails.
The last step in cleaning an iPad is therefore to remove dust particles from the charging port. Be very careful with this, because the parts are very sensitive. Also remove any dust residue from the headphone jack, if your iPad has one.
