Cleaning Pro Display XDR: Dos and Don’ts

The Pro Display XDR has standard glass or nanotextured glass. How you clean the screen depends on the material. You should know this.

How to clean Pro Display XDR

The brand new Pro Display XDR is quite expensive. It is therefore logical that you handle the screen carefully, also during cleaning. And rightly so, because if you clean the display the wrong way, you will cause damage. Moreover, this user damage is not covered by the warranty.

Apple has therefore put a manual online for cleaning the Pro Display XDR. Before you get started with this, you need to know for sure what material your display has. The entry-level model has a screen of ‘normal’ glass. The more expensive version has nanotextured glass.

Clean regular Pro Display XDR

Do you have a standard version? Then use the supplied microfibre cloth to remove stains and dust from the screen. Is the display still dirty? Then remove the plug from the socket, so that the Pro Display XDR no longer has power. Then moisten the microfiber cloth and clean the screen again.

Cleaning Pro Display XDR with nanotextured glass

Do you have an extensive version with special glass? Then there is one important difference compared to the standard edition. You may never Use water when cleaning, as the liquid will damage the nanotextured material. Instead, use a dry microfiber cloth to remove stains and grime.

Cleaning the container

Unplug the Pro Display XDR beforehand so that the display has no power. Also remove any connected other devices, such as an external screen. Then use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth to wipe the holder. Make sure that no moisture gets into the openings.

What you should never do

Finally, there are some means you should never use, no matter which version of the Pro Display XDR you are going to clean. Apple’s banned list includes cleaning products that contain acetone, ammonia, soaps and dishwashing detergents.
