It looks like the renewed version of Siri will come later than iOS 18.4, which will soon be published. You need to know this.
Renewed Siri comes later
According to Mark Gurman Van Bloomberg is probably not ready for Siri when iOS 18.4 will appear soon. Apple announced the new version of Siri last June during the WWDC with the following three upgrades:
1. Personal context
Thanks to a personal context, Siri keeps track of all your e-mails, messages, files, photos and more. If it is on your iPhone, Siri knows where it is and where it comes from. With the help of this information, Siri can help you find something you are looking for. That can be an flight number in an e-mail that you have received, a file that you have downloaded or a photo that someone sent you.
In addition, the renewed Siri also uses personal context to learn more about you. Siri can then help you better with completing tasks and keeping track of everything on your iPhone. Apple gives a few examples for the use of personal context: “Play the podcast that John advised me” and “What time does my mother’s flight land?”
2. Screen consciousness
Siri knows in 2025 what is on your screen, so you can also refer to that. For example, if someone sends you an address, you can tell Siri to add ‘this’ to your contacts. Siri then knows what you’re talking about.
Since iOS 18.2, Siri can send a screenshot of your screen to Chatgpt. Chatgpt can then perform a number of the same functions. However, Apple emphasizes that this chatgpt integration is not the same as the screen consciousness that will come to Siri in a while.
3. App integration
Siri will get better integration with apps in 2025. This allows Siri to perform hundreds of new actions in apps. Apple mentions, among other things, using Siri to call articles from the reading list in Safari, or to send photos of a specific location to someone, for example ‘Send the photos of the party on Friday to John’.
The renewed version of Siri can perform tasks in several steps, such as editing a photo you take and then share it with one command with someone.
Renewed Siri comes later than April
Gurman reports that software bugs can delay or limit the release of the renewed Siri. The new Siri was initially expected in April but is probably postponed until May. That would mean that the new functions only appear with the iOS 18.5 Software update.
Apple did not say when the Siri updates will appear exactly in 2025 after iOS 18. That gives the company technically until August the time to launch the functions, but a beta from iOS 19 will be published in June. And in iOS 19 there should be another new version of Siri.
