Sometimes you have to convert an amount to euros. You don’t need any separate apps for that. You can do the fastest currency conversion with the standard functions of your iPhone!
Convert currency on your iPhone (without special apps)
If you sometimes buy something from web shops outside the euro zone, the prices are often in a different currency. To quickly find out whether the prices are a bit right, you have to convert the amounts to euros.
You can easily convert the currency on your iPhone. You do not need any special apps for this, because it is very easy with the built-in options of your smartphone. We show you different ways to convert the amounts quickly.
1. Use Spotlight
Spotlight is the search tool on your iPhone (and iPad). This allows you to quickly search your iPhone (or consult things on the Internet). You use Spotlight by swiping down from the center with one finger on the home screen. Starting with iOS 16, you can also tap Search on your iPhone’s home screen.
Then enter the amount and type of currency in the search box, such as ‘400 dollars’, ‘230 British pounds’ (remarkably enough, it doesn’t work with ‘British pounds’) or ‘2000 yen’. Your iPhone will then immediately convert the amount for you!
2. Use the camera app with live text
You can also easily convert currency on your iPhone with the camera. Handy if you are in a store abroad and you want to know the price in euros quickly. You have to make sure that your iPhone has an internet connection and that the Live text option is turned on (‘Settings > General > Language & region > Live text’).
Then open the camera app and point the camera at the amount you want to convert. Wait until the camera has grabbed the text and has indicated it with a yellow frame. Then tap the Live Text icon in the bottom right corner. The text will then appear on the screen. Tap the amount to convert the price to euros.
3. Select and convert currency
A third way to convert currency on your iPhone is to select the text first. Press and hold on the amount and adjust the selection to include the type of currency (for example 200 USD). Without the currency, your iPhone cannot convert the amount in this way.
Then tap the ‘>’ sign in the menu that appeared four times. You will then see the amount in euros.
