Convert foreign currencies with the Calculator app

If you travel to a country outside the euro zone, you will be dealing with a currency other than the euro. If you want to know what your four Australian dollar cappuccino costs in euros, you can now use the Calculator app on iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia or newer.

It’s been a long wait, but finally it is possible to convert foreign currencies based on current exchange rates using the Calculator app. You can convert to euros but also to and from another foreign currency.

The Calculator app in iOS, iPadOS and macOS uses current rates provided by Yahoo finance.

Convert currency on iPhone and iPad

To convert foreign currencies with the Calculator app, follow the steps below on your iPhone or iPad.

  • Open the Calculator app on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Tap the calculator icon at the bottom left of the screen.
  • Activate the ‘Convert’ switch.
  • Tap the units behind the from/to numbers (arrows symbol).
  • In the new tab that appears, tap ‘Currency’ and tap the desired currency. You can also use the search bar at the top of the tab to search.

Convert currency on macOS

To convert foreign currencies using the Calculator app on your Mac, use the steps below. Please note that your Mac must have macOS Sequoia or newer.

  • Open the Calculator app on your Mac.
  • Click on the calculator symbol at the bottom left of the window.
  • Select the menu option ‘Convert’
  • Tap the units behind the from/to numbers (arrows symbol).
  • In the new popup menu that appears, click on ‘Currency’ and click on the desired currency. You can also use the search bar at the top of the pop-up to search for a specific currency.

More than just currency conversion

On your Mac, iPhone and iPad you can also convert other units such as MPH (Miles per hour) to kilometers per hour. The calculator can convert the following units: angles, area, weight, volume, time, temperature, speeds, air pressure, power, length, fuel, force, energy, currency and data.

All options are available in the Calculator app’s Convert mode. You can use the search field to quickly find a specific unit.
