A USB stick is useful for transferring files to and from the computer. This is how transferring files via USB stick works.
Transfer file with USB
A USB stick is used to store files such as photos and documents. For example, to make a backup or to move a file from one computer to another. Handy, but how do you transfer a file from a USB stick to a computer?
- Make sure your computer’s sound is on by navigating to the speaker at the bottom of the Taskbar.
- Insert the USB stick into the USB opening of the computer.
- If your sound is on, you will hear a sound. The computer has now made contact with the USB stick.
- Open the Explorer. To do this, click on the folder icon on the Taskbar. Is this icon not on the Taskbar? Click the magnifying glass icon, type ‘File Explorer’ and click Explorer.
- In the left part of the window, click on the name of the USB stick.
- Click on the desired file.
- In Windows 10, click the tab Start and then on To copy. In Windows 11, click the icon To copy.
- Navigate via the left part of the window to the folder on your computer where you want the file to be located.
- In Windows 10, click the tab Start and then on To stick. In Windows 11, click the icon To stick.
The file is now on both the USB stick and the computer.
