Many users on Twitter are humorous with the current situation – but they also show the absurdities that the fear of the corona virus creates. Germany’s situation in nine tweets.

The corona virus has been occupying the media for weeks. Hashtags like #CoronaUpdate, #CoronaVirusDE, # Covid_19 or simply #Corona are bustling with tweets about the new virus on Twitter. Some are informative, some are funny, some are serious. They show absurd scenes – but also that you can see the current situation with humor. And, instead of panicking, act prudently (how, we explain below in the article).

Corona tweets: category “funny”

Warning, risk of confusion: The corona virus has – surprisingly – nothing to do with the Mexican beer brand “Corona”. And unlike many media reports, the outbreak of the brewery’s virus did no harm. The divided the company already at the end of February. In this refrigerator, however, the situation looks a little different:

“Cool or Corona?” To prevent the virus from being transmitted, experts recommend not shaking hands. There are plenty of alternatives. However, some create confusion.

We have listed more hygiene tips in the article below.

Buying hamsters or buying hamsters?

An emergency supply can nourish us for a few days if the food cannot be delivered or if you cannot leave the house. Noodles are obviously the most popular at the moment.

If supermarket shelves are bought empty for the emergency supply, this is called a “hamster purchase”. Best tweet:

Incidentally, the so-called hamster purchases are not necessary in view of the corona virus – and are rather counterproductive. Nils Hübner from the Institute for Hygiene at the University of Greifswald explained to the ZDF: “Hamster purchases do not solve a problem, they create one.” Because those who stand in front of empty shelves tend to buy a lot themselves. This could result in an actual bottleneck that the virus alone would never have created.

This Edeka store prevents hamster purchases: here you can find soap, handkerchiefs and disinfectants put together in a nice package. And unfortunately we have to play the brakes again: This can be done without plastic packaging!

Absurd: Prison is sealed off because of Corona

No joke, the Bild newspaper actually had this headline.

Not so funny: mouth protection and disinfectant theft

Several tweets document mouth protection and disinfectant theft in hospitals. This is not only absurd, but above all dangerous.

What is the situation like?

We also take seriously that people are afraid and have therefore looked at how the situation really is, especially in Germany.

According to many experts, a pandemic is currently in danger. The WHO also sees this potential. Pandemic means: The virus will probably spread unchecked across several continents. On the Overview page the WHO you can see what the situation in Europe is currently like.

The Robert Koch Institute currently assesses the health risk for people in Germany as “moderate” (was standing March 3, 2020).

Corona pandemic: no need to panic!

So no reason to panic. Infected people are also very likely to survive the virus unscathed. Loud WHO 80 percent of sufferers experience a mild course of the disease and get well within 14 days. WHO data refer to China.

We therefore expressly call for prudence. The colleagues of Krautreporter have useful tips on what you can do here compiled.

A few simple hygiene tips that already help:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly. For more than 20 seconds. More about this here.
  • Use hand disinfectant when you are on the go and cannot wash your hands.
  • Don’t sneeze into your hands, but instead into your clothes, your elbows, or a disposable handkerchief (yes, this time we recommend the more environmentally friendly alternative)
  • Do not touch elevator buttons, doorbells etc. with your hands.
  • Don’t touch your face with your hands.
