Create personal guides with favorite locations in Maps

The Maps app makes it possible to create guides with locations in Apple’s standard Maps app. You immediately have all your favorite restaurants together or the sights you want to visit on holiday, this and much more, it is all possible.

The collections can be compared to lists and folders that you put together with interesting locations. Maps is not the only app that can do this, via its competitor Google it is also possible to compile Google Maps lists with your favorite points on the map.

Create guides with favorite locations

• Open the Maps application
• Swipe up the info card with search bar
• Tap ‘more’ or ‘Show all’ next to ‘My guides’
• Tap the plus button to add a new one
• Enter a desired name and possibly photo
• Confirm by tapping ‘Create’

Of course, you can also immediately tap ‘New guide’ in the overview of your guides. Haven’t created any guides yet? The option to add a new one will then immediately appear under ‘My guides’.

Link locations to collections

1. Search for a location in the Maps app
2. Tap the location
3. Open the information card by swiping it up
4. Then tap ‘More…’
5. Choose ‘Add to guides’ and select the desired guide

Good to know, you can also immediately create a new list via this action and display. You can view the lists by opening the Maps application and swiping the info card with search bar up and scrolling down.

Manage guides through Maps for Mac

Starting with macOS Big Sur, the Maps app for Mac also has support for these guides. You can consult them in the sidebar of Maps, which you can activate via View ▸ Show sidebar.

You can consult your collections via the ‘My Guides’ category and using the ‘Add guide’ button it is possible to add your personal lists to the app. Have you created lists yet? Then you can click the plus button next to ‘My Guides’ to add a new one. Naturally, these are synchronized with all your devices via iCloud.

Would you like to add a location to a guide on your Mac? Then find the location and click on the three dots in the pop-up window. You can then choose the ‘Save in guide’ option.
