Customize the toolbar in Mail on the Mac and decide which mailboxes are shown.
Mail for the Mac
The e-mail program Mail is standard on Mac computers. With the update to Big Sur, the program has been adjusted. As a result, users only see the mailboxes ‘Incoming’, ‘Sent’, ‘Marked’ and ‘Drafts’. The other mailboxes are no longer displayed by default. The button bar has also been adjusted, so that not all buttons are visible anymore. Fortunately, this is all customizable, so you see the buttons and mailboxes you want.
Customize toolbar
The toolbar is the bar at the top of the mail. For example, it says ‘Retrieve’ or ‘Filter’. But there can be many more options that make mailing easier. Think of ‘Delete’, ‘Answer’ or ‘Forward’.
- Open Mail.
- Click in the menu bar at the top Display.
- click on Customize toolbar.
- A menu opens. Here are all the buttons that can be added to the toolbar. The buttons already on the bar move back and forth. This way you know where the other buttons can be placed. These can be individual buttons, but you can also place the standard set at the bottom of the button bar in one go. Click on the desired button or set in the menu, hold down the mouse button and drag the button to the button bar.
- Repeat the previous bullet for several buttons if necessary.
- Click on . at the bottom Ready.
You can add buttons as often as you want. Accidentally added a wrong button? Navigate back to the menu using the buttons. Click in the button bar on the button you want to remove and drag it towards the menu. It now disappears from the toolbar.
Add mailboxes
Adjust which mailboxes are visible in Mail as follows:
- Click in the menu bar at the top Favorites.
- A plus sign will appear next to Favorites. Click on this.
- A new window opens. Click on the two arrows next to ‘Mailbox to add’.
- Select the mailbox you want to add from the drop-down menu.
- click on OK.
