Did you know that you can easily delete entered text on your iPhone by shaking your device? In this article we explain how it works and how to turn it off.
Disable shake recovery
On board the iPhone are all kinds of sensors that can measure things. For example, your device can count steps based on the movement you make when you walk and it counts the stairs via height determination and movement. But you can also use the sensors to undo entered text in one go.
If you have typed something and you are not satisfied, you can of course press backspace to delete everything, or select all and then delete it. But it can also be done differently, namely by shaking. A small window will appear with the words ‘Type recovery’. If you tap ‘Cancel’, nothing will happen and you can continue typing. If you choose ‘Recover’, the text box will be completely emptied.
That is how it works

This feature, called Shake Restore, is turned on by default when you buy a new iPhone, but there is a way to turn it off in iOS 9. If you often shake your iPhone, you will not always get the message. Follow the step-by-step plan below to turn it off.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone and go to ‘General’;
- In this window, select ‘Accessibility’;
- Swipe down slightly and select ‘Shake recovery’;
- The button is green, slide to the left to turn it off.
If you shake your iPhone in the future, the written text will remain and you will not get a pop-up. If you want to enable the function again, repeat the above steps, but set the slider to green again.
