Make sure your e-mail address is entered with DigiD. Then you can quickly recover the password, for example, if you have forgotten it.
Forgot your DigiD password
With DigiD you identify yourself online with various government services. Think of the tax authorities, but also the online environment of your health insurance. The DigiD is a combination of a username and password, and possibly a code that you receive via SMS. But what if you can’t remember the password?
If you do not have an e-mail address with DigiD, you will receive a letter with the method to set a new password. So this takes a few days and that is annoying if you want to access your data. Therefore, complete your DigiD with your e-mail address. If you have forgotten the password, you will receive the method for setting a new password immediately by email.
Enter or change DigiD e-mail address
For the steps below, we used the computer, not the mobile app. Enter your e-mail address with DigiD as follows:
- Open the website www.digid.nl
- click on My DigiD.
- click on With username and password.
- Enter your username and password and click login.
- If necessary, click My details.
- Here is an overview of your data. Under ‘Email address’ you will see ‘No email address provided’. (If you do see the correct e-mail address, then you have already entered it and you don’t have to do anything now.) Click on Use a different email address.
- click on change e-mail address to enter a different e-mail address than is currently known to DigiD.
- Enter your email address and click Next one.
- Enter your DigiD password and click Next one.
- Leave the site open and check your mailbox. DigiD will send you an e-mail with a verification code.
- Go back to the opened DigiD website. Is this no longer open? Then go back to the settings page via the above steps.
- Enter the code in the box below ‘Personal code’. click on Verify.
- The email address has been verified. Click on the top right Log out to log out of DigiD.
Reset password
Forgot your DigiD password? It can happen to the best. Recover the DigiD password by e-mail like this:
- Go to the login page of DigiD.
- First click With username and password.
- Click below the ‘Login’ button Forgot your password.
- Enter your citizen service number and DigiD username and click Next one.
- Follow the steps in the picture and the instructions that you will receive by email.
Pay attention!
Only respond to emails from DigiD if you have followed the steps in this tip yourself! If this is not the case and you receive an email from DigiD, it is a phishing email.
