You can adjust the Safari homepage to your own preferences if desired. This allows you to set a background image and add or remove sections such as favorites, iCloud tabs and reports. You can also manage suggestions regarding shared links and previously visited pages in this way.
If you want a clear home page, it is wise to disable some sections and opt for a neutral background. Once customized, you can sync your own curated homepage with all your other Apple devices.
Safari homepage
The Safari home page is automatically displayed when you open a new window or tab in Safari. Here you will find your favorites (bookmarks), but also iCloud tabs, reading list, reports, etc. Suggestions are also displayed, these are web pages that have been shared with you or websites that you have frequently visited. If you wish, you can hide these suggestions so that you no longer see them on the home page of your browser.
Preview suggestions in Safari
Starting with iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and Safari 18 (part of macOS Sequoia), you will notice that the suggestions are merged and show a preview of the website or content. Unfortunately, it is not possible to disable this ‘rich’ preview and show a minimalist view or symbols. So it is completely on or off, you can read how below.
Disable Safari suggestions on homepage
- Open Safari on your iPhone or iPad
- Tap the two overlapping squares
- Open a new page with the plus button
- Scroll down to ‘Edit’
- Disable the suggestions
On a Mac you can do this by opening a new window or tab. Click on the three horizontal stripes in the bottom right corner or click with a secondary click (right mouse button) on an empty field on the home page. Disable the suggestions.
