Display Ribbon in Word

Is the Ribbon at the top of Word taking up too much space? Choose the display of the bar yourself: all functions visible, only the tabs visible or gone. You can decide at any time which view you like best.

Start Word and open a blank or existing document. At the top is the Ribbon with all kinds of different options. At the top right is your name. Next to it is an icon of a square with an arrow pointing up. Click on the square with the up arrow Word Icon Display Ribbon to display the Ribbon options. There are three options to click on:

  • Auto-hide ribbon
Temporarily not see any part of the Ribbon. Use the button with the square and the arrow to call up the other display options.
  • Show tabs
With this option, you only see the names of the tabs on the Ribbon. Click on a tab to display the underlying options. Use the button with the square and the arrow to call up the other display options.
  • Show tabs and commands
The default setting where you see all parts of the Ribbon.
