Do identical twins have the same fingerprints?

The coat patterns in eg okapis and zebras are also different for each animal, but is that also the case with identical twins?

Asker: Mark, 66 years old

Answer

Best,

No, their fingerprints are not the same.

Fingerprints are formed in the womb and are an interplay of DNA (identical in identical twins), nutrition, place in the womb, speed of development of the fingers,… and that is different for all twins.

The fingerprints will be broadly identical, but the details will be different.

Kind regards,
