Old iPhone is worth less
Apple will soon launch iOS 17, bringing some cool new features to your iPhone. Unfortunately, the latest iOS version is not coming to all iPhones, just like every year, some older iPhones no longer support the update. These phones will still receive security updates, but no new features will be added to these devices.
Do you still have such an old iPhone? Then we have bad news, because the phone will be worth a lot less once iOS 17 is released. iPhones are expected to lose more than 40 percent of their value once they lose support for the latest iOS version. That is why it is wise to sell the iPhone as soon as possible. It’s about these iPhones.
You must sell this iPhone
Every year a series of iPhones are dropped with the release of a new iOS version. That is no different with iOS 17, because the iPhone 8, the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X no longer have support for the update. These phones are stuck on iOS 16. If you still have one of these iPhones, you better sell it quickly. Now the phone is worth much more than after the release of iOS 17.

According to SellCell the iPhone 8 (Plus) and the iPhone X are likely to lose more than 40 percent of their value. The same happened with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7, when these phones lost support for the latest iOS version, they fell in value by a whopping 42.8 percent. So you would do well to sell your iPhone 8 (Plus) or iPhone X quickly, because soon you will only be able to ask for half of the current amount for the phone.
This is when iOS 17 appears
You still have a while to sell your old iPhone, because Apple will only release the new iOS update after the presentation of the iPhone 15. The new iPhones will probably be presented on Tuesday, September 12. Usually the latest iOS update appears the first Monday after the presentation, which would be Monday September 18 this year.
That evening you can download iOS 17, provided your iPhone supports it, of course. That also means that the iPhone 8 (Plus) and the iPhone X will drop in value that evening, so sell your iPhone before that day. You can trade in your iPhone at Apple, or sell it yourself via e.g. Marktplaats. It is advisable to sell the iPhone yourself, with Apple you often get (too) little money for old devices.
Do not (yet) buy a new iPhone after selling it
Be careful, because this is not a good time to buy a completely new iPhone yourself. The prices of the new iPhones will probably fall enormously next month due to the launch of the iPhone 15. You can then purchase the iPhone 14 at a much lower price, so it is better to wait a while before buying a new iPhone.
