In iOS 17.0.3. solves iPhone overheating problem. But does this also make the iPhone 15 Pro (Max) slower?
iPhone 15 Pro (Max) slower due to iOS 17.0.3
A new iOS 17 update has just arrived for every iPhone. A security hole was closed, but more importantly: the overheating of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max was resolved.
The usually reliable Ming-Chi Kuo also weighed in on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max becoming too hot. According to the Apple expert, it was only possible for Apple to reduce heat development by reducing the processor speed.
Various tests have now been carried out with Geekbench 5. This is a program to test the performance of all kinds of devices, including iPhones. These are the Geekbench 5 results of an iPhone 15 Pro running iOS 17.0.1 and 17.0.2.
- Single core score: 2914
- Multi-core score: 7199
With iOS 17.0.3 the scores are as follows:
- Single core score: 2875
- Multi-core score: 7006
As you can see, the iPhone 15 seems to have become very slightly slower. But this score depends on many factors, such as the temperature of the iPhone and even the battery level. Therefore, it is virtually impossible to get the same results if you run a test multiple times.
A second test (two hours later) showed the following results:
- Single core score: 2941
- Multi-core score: 7523
So did the iPhone become slower after installing iOS 17.0.3? No, probably not. You certainly won’t notice it. It is possible that Apple has adjusted the processor speed slightly if the iPhone runs a demanding app for a longer period of time, but that remains to be seen.
Apple has looked for a solution in collaboration with the app developers. It is not known exactly what else Apple has done to solve the overheating of the iPhone 15 Pro (Max).
