Does iOS 26 ensure that iPhone users will sleep soon?

The design of De Wekker leaves something to be desired

Thanks to the new Liquid Glass Design, Apple has adjusted the interface of many applications, including the alarm function. However, this now ensures the necessary controversy; Does iOS 26 ensure that iPhone users will sleep soon?

Jack Fields, former Apple-Engineer, says on X that users can experience problems with the new design of the alarm clock on the access screen. According to him, the chance that users accidentally press ‘stop’ instead of ‘snooze’ is no less than 30% greater.

Alarm clock in iOS 26

The design of the alarm clock in iOS 26 has undergone significant changes, especially in the field of service. In the new version, the buttons for ‘Sluim’ (Snooze) and ‘Stop’ are both the same size and they are directly below each other at the bottom of the screen. This is a striking break with earlier versions, in which the sleeping button was usually much more prominent and larger than the stop button.

Wrong choice with button views

Jack Fields, former Apple engineer, Share on X That during his time at the company he did research into how people deal with snoozing and stopping their alarm clock. Internal research, carried out with a special version of the Klok app that registers user interactions, shows that half-wake user more often accidentally touch the wrong button when both buttons are the same size and close.

According to the former Apple engineer Jack Fields, the chance that users accidentally press ‘stop’ instead of ‘sleeping’ in this situation is no less than 30% larger. This increases the risk that users sleep, because they completely expand the alarm instead of postponing it. Jack is therefore surprised that Apple has now made this design choice for iOS 26.

Customize sleeping time

In addition to the design of the buttons, iOS 26 also offers the possibility to adjust the slumber duration, a much -needed option of users.

  • Open the clock app
  • Go to ‘alarm clock’
  • Create a new one or edit an existing one
  • Call in the ‘Snoim’ option
  • Tap ‘Dormal duration’
  • Choose a desired time
Customize sleeping time

Users have the option to change the slumber duration to a time of 1 to 15 minutes. This is set to nine minutes as standard.

Design buttons can still change

Does this mean that you will sooner sleep when iOS 26 will be released? Probably not. Apple reads this criticism and there is a good chance that the interface of the alarm function will still be adjusted. For example, Apple has adjusted the interface of the control panel after complaints from beta testers. The buttons and background were too transparent and the entire control panel was difficult to read; Apple immediately adjusted this in Bèta 2. So there is a good chance that the stop button will soon be smaller than the slumber button.
