Donald Trump’s Truth Social App Banned From Play Store

Truth Social, the social network of former US President Donald Trump, is no longer available in the Play Store. The app has repeatedly violated the policy of Google’s application store and must first answer for it before it can go live again.

Truth Social Banned

Seven months, that’s how long it took for the new social network Truth Social to disappear from the Play Store. The app was launched under the influence of former President Trump after his social media accounts were banned with the 2020 US presidential election that ended in a storming of the Capitol.

According to axios Truth Social is no longer welcome on the Play Store due to its lack of moderation, a policy that should be the spearhead for the app. On Truth Social, there were many hateful messages and calls for violence. The social network did label this content as ‘Sensitive’, but that was it. On the other hand, not all messages were tagged either. Axios shows an example of a message urging the United States to be bombarded with nuclear weapons, but it contains no warning.

Sharpen Moderation

“On August 19, we contacted Truth Social regarding multiple violations of our policies in the current version of the app. We emphasized that effective moderation of user content is a prerequisite for any Play Store app” Google said in a statement.

Truth Social must first tighten its moderation policy before the app is allowed back into the Play Store. It is not clear whether the app agrees to this. Truth Social is currently still available in the App Store, even though it has also repeatedly violated Apple’s application store policies. The app has two million users who are active monthly.
