Don’t show images in Gmail

gmail_images(1)

Gmail automatically displays the images in messages. If you don’t want that, you can set Gmail to ask for permission every time.

For example, if someone has a slow internet connection or a limited mobile data bundle, it is better to adjust this setting. Gmail then asks each time whether an image can be shown. By the way, if Gmail finds a sender or message suspicious, the images won’t automatically display anyway. The mail program then asks if it can show the image.

  • Go to gmail.com and log in.
  • Click on the ‘Settings’ icon at the top right. That’s a gear icon.
  • click on View all settings.
  • Open the tab General if it isn’t already open.
  • Scroll to the ‘Pictures’ section.
  • Put a tick in front of Ask to display external images first.
  • Click at the bottom Saving Changes.

To display images in a message, click View the images below in the green box above the message.
