How do you actually tackle a small programming job these days? It quickly becomes C# in Visual Studio and then you get yourself quite a bit on the neck again. Fair is fair, putting together a Windows Forms App is not even that complicated and it quickly looks quite professional. And thanks to Visual Studio (which is getting better and more versatile with each passing year, not getting any easier) it’s not even that difficult to add a handy ‘installer’. But in the meantime – especially for the beginner – it is a lot of hassle in Visual Studio! Then why not take a step back to DOS? Just get started in a non-graphics operating system and use a flattened programming environment. And it won’t get much flatter than QBasic. Start installing DOSBox to run DOS within Windows 10/Windows 11: www.dosbox.com. Next is QBasic can be found here: www.qbasic.net. You will soon experience: “Great fun!”
