Have you installed the iOS 11 public or developer beta, but still prefer to go back to iOS 10? Fortunately, you can easily downgrade.

Downgrade iOS 11: This is how it works

Whether you find the beta too unstable, your battery life has become too bad or you are going to sell the device; there are plenty of reasons to downgrade iOS 11 to iOS 10. Being a trial version, Apple has made it relatively easy to do this.

All you need to downgrade iOS 11 is a backup of iOS 10. Also check that you are using the most recent version of iTunes. You can then follow the steps below.

Downgrade the iOS 11 beta to iOS 10 in 5 steps

To downgrade the beta from iOS 11 to iOS 10:

  1. Download the IPSW file associated with the iPhone or iPad you wish to downgrade. Developers download this here and public testers here;
  2. Connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer with a Lightning cable;
  3. Put your device in recovery mode. You do this by pressing and holding the home and lock button, even if the Apple logo has already appeared on the screen. On the iPhone, press and hold the Lock and Volume Down button;
  4. A notification will appear on your computer. With the Option (or Shift) button pressed, click the Restore button. Then choose the IPSW file;
  5. Downgrading begins, which can take a while. You can then configure the device as a new device or restore a backup.

Once you have completed the steps above, you will be back to iOS 10. This fall, you will simply receive the final iOS 11 update, just like the users who have no beta installed. Do you want to get started with the test version? Read how to install the iOS 11 public beta.
