The Corona Check is now available throughout the Netherlands. With this app you pass on corona symptoms and help map the virus. In this article we explain how to register.
The Corona Check now available
Tonight the Dutch government will announce whether there will be an official ‘coronavirus app’, but until then you can help map the virus with The Corona Check. The app is based on Luscii, a medical app that has been in the App Store for some time, and allows users to report any corona symptoms. That is how it works:
- Go to the website of The Corona Check;
- Press ‘Sign up’ and enter some personal information such as your name, date of birth and zip code;
- Then choose which care region applies to you and complete the registration;
- You will now receive an email within a few minutes at the address you provided with a download link for the app (Luscii Vitals);
- Download the app on your iPhone;
- During registration you will receive a code via e-mail, enter it;
- The Corona Check is now ready for use.
You are now almost ready to use the app. First you have to press ‘Start’ next to ‘How does the Corona Check work’. You will now receive an explanation of how the app works exactly. Once you have gone through this explanation, you can report any corona symptoms by tapping ‘Start’ next to the health complaints. You are supposed to do this every day. In this way, the care regions can map the corona virus.

You need this
In addition to an iPhone, you also need a thermometer for The Corona Check. The last part asks for your body temperature. If the healthcare team suspects that you may have been infected with the virus, they will contact you as soon as possible. From that moment on, it is the intention that you have yourself tested. Your iPhone must be running at least iOS 12 to use the app.
The Corona Check was developed by OLVG – the Amsterdam hospital – and Luscii. Several partner hospitals are also participating in the initiative. When registering, you must indicate in which care region you live, so that local care providers can help you further. Only they can view your data. You can also contact hospitals in your area via De Corona Check.
Tonight clarity
Last weekend, the Dutch government organized an ‘appathon’, a competition in which seven possible ‘corona apps’ took part. Tonight at 19:00 it will be announced whether such an app will actually be used.
It is also possible that multiple apps are released. So the Corona Check is not the corona app chosen by the government, but a separate initiative. So far, there has been quite a bit of criticism of the apps that participated in the appathon. Read all about it in the article below.
