A small, but handy addition to iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 is that you can download files with Safari. This is how the Safari download manager works on iPhone and iPad.
Download files in Safari on iOS 13 and iPadOS 13
Safari gets a new function in iOS 13 and iPadOS 13. Now you can download files instead of just viewing. By default, these files are stored in iCloud, but you can change this location. How to download in Safari on iOS 13 and iPadOS 13:
- On your iPhone or iPad, tap a link to a downloadable file, such as a document or ticket;
- Select ‘Download’ to download the file. You can also watch songs and videos first instead of downloading them directly;
- Tap the down arrow in the top right corner to find the download.
By default, the file is saved to your iCloud. This folder can of course be adjusted as desired. To do this, open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad, scroll down and choose Safari. Tap the newly added ‘Downloads’ option under the ‘General’ heading. Here you can choose a different storage such as a Dropbox account. Tap Other to manually choose a folder on your Apple device.
Automatically delete Safari downloads
The new download manager is nice and clear, but not when it contains dozens of files. It is therefore possible to automatically delete downloads. To do this, tap the bottom button: ‘Remove items from download list’. You can then indicate whether downloads should be deleted after a day after the download has been successful or at another time of your choice.
