Facebook Lite for your iPhone can now also be used in the Netherlands. The stripped-down version of the social platform takes up less space, works better with slow internet and is more economical with data.
Facebook Lite for iPhone now also in the Netherlands
The app was released at the end of last year, but until now it was only available in Turkey. From now on, Facebook Lite is also available in the Dutch App Store. After downloading, log in to your account, after which everything works as usual. This way you can scroll through your timeline, post photos and respond to messages.
Facebook Lite is intended for users in emerging countries. Many of these people have cheaper phones with little storage memory. Moreover, (mobile) internet is often expensive. Lite is also a godsend for Dutch users who are only sporadically on Facebook.
The differences
However, the app looks slightly different. For example, icons are less ‘dressed up’ and animations have been cut back. This makes Lite feel less fluid than the extensive app. In addition, the loading times take longer, so you have to wait a little longer.
Videos are also shown in a lower quality. This makes it possible to watch movies, even with a slow internet connection. Finally, the download takes up a lot less space. Where the ‘normal’ version takes up no less than 250MB, Facebook Lite comes away with a size of 9MB.
You can therefore compare Facebook Lite with the web version that you view in Safari, but in an app. The advantage of this is that you will receive a push notification, for example if you are tagged in a message. Of course you can also disable these notifications.
Unrest at Facebook
It has been restless around the social network lately. Following various scandals, in which the company, for example, spied on children for payment, director Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will focus on privacy.
