The Messages app has been updated in iOS 16. You can edit a message in iOS 16 even though it has already been sent. In this tip you can read how this function works!
iOS 16: edit your message afterwards
One of the biggest new features of iOS 16 is the ability to retrieve or edit messages (in the Messages app). When Apple announced this feature, you could undo sending a message for 15 minutes. However, since iOS 16 beta 4, this has been shortened to just two minutes.
You can also change one message up to five times. In addition, all previous versions remain visible. The recipient only needs to tap one more time to see this. Still, it’s a very useful feature. Read all about the possibilities of customizing a message in iOS 16 in this article.
This is how you edit your message
Messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram added this functionality to their arsenal a long time ago. So it was high time that Apple followed suit. Does a typo make your last message super unclear? Or have you made a spelling mistake that you hope no one notices? In the step-by-step plan below you can read how you can change that!
- Open the Messages app on your iPhone;
- Send an (incorrect) message;
- Hold the relevant message for a long time;
- Tap ‘edit’;
- Change the message.
The recipient will receive a notification. Please note, you can only edit your message for 2 minutes in iOS 16. After that, the message is fixed forever. Or yes, you can also delete the message completely. That has to be done in those 2 minutes.
NB: iOS 16 is not available to everyone at the moment. Only software developers can test this feature. Are you eager to try out all the new iOS 16 features? Then you have to sign up for the public beta from iOS 16. Are you very curious but don’t want to download iOS 16 yet? Then keep an eye on our website or sign up for our newsletter.
