YouTube is tinkering with the look of its video service. To enable YouTube’s dark mode, you will have to adjust some settings.
YouTube dark mode
At the moment YouTube’s dark mode is still a test, but you can already activate it. That is, if you use Google Chrome as a browser. Especially in the evening, such a dark mode is nice if you want to watch videos in low light. A white background can quickly become too bright or distracting, even if you have enabled the new Night Shift mode on the Mac.
Ultimately, it is a matter of switching a switch for dark or light, as a user discovered Reddit. You will first have to turn on the function via a detour that we will go through step by step below:
- Make sure you have installed Chrome 57, the latest version of the browser;
- Go to the main YouTube.com page;
- Open developer mode (option + command + i);
- Go to the ‘Console’ tab;
- Paste the following text in a new row and press Enter: document.cookie = ”VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE = fPQ4jCL6EiE”;
- Exit developer mode and refresh the page;
- Click on your profile at the top right and click on ‘Dark mode’;
- Turn on dark mode.
Recent YouTube changes
It is still unclear when YouTube will officially make the mode available. You can in any case make use of the function via this detour. Once you set it up, it will continue to work. This only applies to the Chrome browser, dark mode is not automatically available in other browsers.
Recently, some innovations have been made to the YouTube app. This way you can fast forward YouTube with 10 seconds forward (or back). In addition, YouTube came with controls from the lock screen and the Apple Watch, making it easier on different devices.
