EncryptOnClick – Encrypted quickly

Encrypted malware

Preferably protect privacy-sensitive files properly. You do not just leave it on your disk and you prefer not to mail it unsecured. Encrypting the files with a reliable encryption algorithm offers a solution. EncryptOnClick works on the basis of a solid 256-bit AES and files can be encrypted and decrypted with just a few mouse clicks.

  • Pros
  • Reliable encryption algorithm
  • User friendly
  • Decryption is also possible with 7-Zip
  • Negatives
  • Encryption in the same folder as originals

After installation it appears that an extra option has been added to the context menu of the Explorer: Encrypt with EncryptOnClick (at least for files, not for folders; you can also decrypt encrypted files from this option). If you still prefer a ‘portable version’, three files will suffice for this: EncryptOnClick.exe, EncryptonClick.exe.manifest and XceedZip.dll.

The main window contains two buttons for encryption and two for decryption.

Encryption

The main window contains only a few buttons: one for encryption, one for decryption, each for files and folders. Incidentally, the folder contents do not end up in one encrypted file: each file is encrypted individually. A strong password is sufficient and unless you indicate otherwise, the original file will be deleted as well – this will not show up in the Recycle Bin. If you want to make the file names unreadable as well, a tick is sufficient. The encrypted file with extension eoc always ends up in the same folder as the original. During encryption, EnCryptOnClick simultaneously compresses the files, useful if you want to forward them as an attachment, for example.

Decrypt

Encrypted files can be decrypted in various ways: from the main window or the context menu of the Explorer, but also by double-clicking on such an eoc file. In fact, the intended recipient doesn’t even need to have EncryptOnClick to be able to decrypt. According to the site, that also works with WinZip (9 or higher), but during our tests it turned out that it also works with the popular 7-Zip. You must of course enter the corresponding password.

An encrypted file can also be extracted with 7-Zip (after entering the password).

Conclusion

EncryptOnClick is a handy tool to quickly and reliably (thanks to AES 256-bit) encrypt one or more files with a password. The intended recipient can decrypt the data with EncryptOnClick, but also with a popular archiving tool like 7-Zip.
