End of Mac Pro: Apple no longer confirms new hardware, Mac Studio as an alternative

We saw it coming for a while and now it has been confirmed, Apple has officially discontinued the Mac Pro and disappeared from the website. According to confirmations to 9to5Mac Apple no longer has plans for future Mac Pro hardware, marking a clear shift toward other pro desktop options.

The Mac Pro page now leads to the general Mac homepage, without any mention of the high-end model. This decision comes after a long period without significant updates, while competitors such as the Mac Studio have continued to develop.

History of the Mac Pro

The current Mac Pro design dates from 2019 and was updated with the M2 Ultra chip in 2023, but remained at a price tag of approximately $7,000. Meanwhile, Apple launched the powerful M3 Ultra in the Mac Studio last year, which now serves as the new flagship for professionals with up to 32-core CPU, 80-core GPU, 256 GB memory and 16 TB storage.

End of Mac Pro: Apple no longer confirms new hardware, Mac Studio as an alternative

The Mac Pro had several iterations over the years, but Apple chose not to update it to newer chips. Instead, the company is positioning the Mac Studio as the future for pro users.

Mac Studio as a replacement

Apple now offers three more desktop Macs: the 24-inch iMac with M4, Mac mini with M4 and M4 Pro, and the Mac Studio. For laptops, there are the MacBook Neo, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, which analysts say will create the strongest Mac lineup ever with a variety of pricing and configuration options.

This news may be disappointing for fans of the Mac Pro, but many see it as a logical step given its outdated specs and high price. The Mac Studio offers similar performance and packs a lot of power in a more compact design.
