Your iPhone SIM PIN is the basic security to prevent malicious parties from using your phone. We show you how to enter and change the SIM PIN and what to do if you forget the code.
1. Enter iPhone SIM PIN
Every time you restart your iPhone, you have to enter the passcode and the code of your SIM card. The latter is also optional, because if you tap ‘Cancel’ at the bottom right, you can use the device as usual. However, it is then impossible to make a call and you cannot use mobile internet either. It is only mandatory to enter a SIM PIN when you set up your iPhone for the first time, for example if you bought the device new or restored the factory settings.
If you accidentally clicked the window away to enter the iPhone sim pin, follow the steps below:
- Open the Settings app;
- Tap on ‘Mobile Network’;
- Scroll down and tap on ‘SIM PIN’;
- Tap change PIN to change the code or the switch to turn the code on and off.
2. Change iPhone SIM PIN
If you take out a new (SIM only) subscription, you will usually receive a new SIM card and a PIN code that is linked to it. However, if you have been using the same SIM code for years, it can be difficult to remember the new number.
Fortunately, the iPhone allows you to change the four-digit number to something more memorable. Again, go to ‘Settings> Phone> SIM PIN’, after which you press ‘Change PIN’. Then enter your current pin code to be able to change it to a new code. It goes without saying that you should not use 9999, 1234 or other easy pin codes.

3. Forgotten iPhone SIM code
You may only enter your SIM PIN a few times a year, because you almost never restart your iPhone. And then it can happen that you no longer remember the sim code if you suddenly have to enter it again. If you enter the wrong number three times, the iPhone is blocked and you need the so-called PUK code (personal unblocking key) to regain access.

You can find it on the same page (or e-mail) that contains the pin code you received from your provider. The code consists of eight digits and you have nine attempts to enter it. Do not guess the numbers yourself, because the SIM card will be permanently blocked after nine attempts. If you cannot find the PUK code, please contact your provider’s customer service.
