Every week, Apple puts one paid app in the spotlight by making it temporarily free. This time it’s Attack the Light’s turn, a game based on Cartoon Network’s Steven Universe. Actually intended for children, but secretly entertaining for adults as well.
Read on after the ad.
Steven Universe: Attack the Light has been age categorized from nine to eleven years old. However, that doesn’t make the RPG any less fun for people who have passed this age for a long time, although some elements seem slightly childish. Just like in the Steven Universe cartoon, the well-known Crystal Gems also play a leading role in the iOS app.

The gems in this case are the good ones, which protect Beach City from aliens. Together with Pearl, Amethyst and Garnet you move as Steven through five different worlds, exploring to reach the next levels and being challenged by the evil aliens.
This is how you play Attack the Light
Because the game increases in difficulty and there is a real story attached to Attack the Light, the game is also intriguing for adults. The controls are also very simple. You move forward by swiping from room to room. You can explore treasure chests and other items by tapping on them. With new elements, Steven is asked what to do: open the treasure chest or leave it closed because there may be something dangerous in it, for example.
To survive a duel with the aliens, fight with the gems. You get a number of star points, with which you can perform an action. For example, the three protagonists can perform attacks and Steven is able to offer protection or to replenish lives. You can choose which of the four main characters you let perform an attack or other action, until the so-called stars run out. Then you have to protect yourself from your opponent’s attacks by tapping the screen at the right time.
Normally Attack the Light costs 2.99 euros. The game is now free to download for a week, but requires iOS 7.0 and 189MB of free storage space on your smartphone.
