Eyeballs # 18: PostNL app warns you for all addressed mail

The PostNL app now gives a warning when a letter or other addressed mail is on the way. We can no longer live without it.

With the PostNL app you no longer need to walk to the letterbox unnecessarily

If you’re impatiently waiting for a letter or other addressed mail, you may be walking back and forth for days. Each time with the hope that the postman has finally pushed your mail through the slot. The problem with a lot of mail is that you do not know exactly when it is on its way. The PostNL app has recently offered a solution, which is very useful.

You are probably already familiar with the idea that you can track ordered packages closely. The technology behind this is constantly being expanded. Nowadays it is sometimes possible to see exactly where the postman’s van is located, how many other parcels still need to be delivered before it is your turn and at what time they will ring your doorbell. This is a significant improvement compared to the past. Then you sometimes stayed at home all day to open the door.

My Post

Since earlier this year, the PostNL app has been offering My Post. With this function you will receive a message when addressed mail is registered with PostNL. You even get to see a scan of the envelope or card, so you know exactly what to expect. This way you always know in advance whether you will receive mail and you will never have to walk unnecessarily to the letterbox again. Unfortunately, the app has not yet reached the point where you also know exactly what time the postman will arrive.

You register for this position in the app. PostNL will send you a code by post within a few days. If you enter this code via the app, your identity is confirmed and you will receive notifications about your own mail from then on. Push notifications for parcels and other mail can be switched on and off independently of each other.

Other functions

While we particularly love the ‘My Post’ option, the app has a ton of other features. For example, the shipments of your parcels are also listed in the app and you can select the delivery time yourself after registration. It is also possible to send mail within the app by creating a stamp code or a shipping label. Such a code consists of nine letters or numbers that you write on the spot of a stamp. Payment can be made via iDeal.

In addition, in the app you will find locations of letterboxes, locations to deliver parcels and an overview of postage rates.

Improvement possible

Although ‘My Post’ and other functions are useful and we can no longer do without, there is still a lot of room for improvement. Although we haven’t run into anything ourselves, a look at the App Store shows a lot of annoyed users. They report, for example, that messages arrive late, packages are not in the app, the app crashes and that delivery times often turn out to be incorrect. The maker of the app does release regular updates to correct errors.
