Facebook Messenger is now also available as a separate app for macOS. So you can now video call Facebook friends on a big screen. That is how it works.

Now that a large part of the world’s population is forced to stay at home, the popularity of video calling apps is increasing. Facebook Messenger has been letting you video call your friends on iPhone for some time, but is now also available for macOS. You have to install the app first:
- Grab your Mac(Book);
- Go to Messenger on the Mac App Store;
- Download the application: this may take a while;
- Open Messenger and log in with your Facebook account information.
You only need to log in once. Messenger then remembers who you are and you can immediately start chatting. The program has all the features you already know from the iPhone and web versions, but is optimized for larger screens.
You can do this with it
The great thing about Messenger is that you don’t need email addresses or phone numbers to call colleagues, family and friends. An account on Facebook is sufficient. The person speaking automatically takes the foreground.
You can also leave chats open in the background. That way you can do other things at the same time. Of course Messenger syncs between your Mac and iPhone and you can, for example, turn on a dark mode. A dark color palette is nicer for your eyes than the standard white version.
