Facebook says it helps users by only displaying relevant messages. Messages that Facebook deems less interesting, but that you might like to see on your timeline, are protected in this way. Would you rather keep control over which messages are relevant and which are not? Then read on to discover how to find the most recent messages on Android.
Facebook and the algorithm
Have you ever missed an important photo or event of friends or family on Facebook? Chances are – depending on how active you are on Facebook – the algorithm was responsible for that. The Facebook algorithm knows which messages you like to see, and takes into account how many interactions a message receives. This data is combined with other variables; all variables together determine the content of your timeline.
It should be noted that recent posts can also be seen as relevant. However, you will usually not be presented with all recent messages. You will also notice that in some cases Facebook continues to serve a certain message at the top repeatedly, or that a group takes over your timeline. Such messages often receive a lot of interactions. While it’s nice to be kept up to date with all the updates from groups, friends, family and Pages you follow, you want to be able to follow all events – not the events that are important in one group, or one of your friends.
Recent posts on Facebook
Facebook sees its algorithm as one of the reasons why the platform has become so successful. If you prefer to view (all) recent posts, you may not fully agree. Fortunately, in the app for Android, as well as for the Facebook website, there is a way to get around the ‘algorithm’. Below you can read how you can proceed.
- Open the Facebook app on Android
- Scroll down and up slowly until a bar appears at the top with Homepage, Favorites and Recent
- click on Recent to view all recent posts
Unlike Twitter, Facebook does not yet have an option to display recent posts on your timeline by default. Every time after opening the Facebook app on Android, you will have to perform the step for displaying recent posts. Do you ever use this function?
