Find iPhone with Google Assistant: this is how it works

It is now possible to find your lost iPhone via the Google Assistant. You must first activate this function. iPhone explains how it works.

Tip: Search iPhone with Google Assistant

Google has a bunch of new features for the Google Assistant released. It is particularly interesting for iPhone users that they can now find their phone with the help of the Google voice help. You also need a smart speaker with Google Assistant for this, such as the Google Nest Audio.

As soon as you have lost your device, you can ask the Google Assistant to search for your iPhone. Then your Apple phone will start playing sound. Is your phone on silent? No problem: the new feature works even when Do Not Disturb is turned on. You have to activate the feature first. You do this by following the steps below.

  1. Open the Google Home app on your iPhone;

  2. Go to ‘Settings’ and tap on ‘Notifications’;

  3. Select ‘General notifications’ and switch on ‘Essential notifications’.

Do you see a notification at the top of the screen stating that ‘Essential notifications’ is not turned on? Then tap it to set the function.

Then you can ask your Google Assistant to find your iPhone. Simply say “Hey Google, find my iPhone”. You can also ask the voice assistant to call your device directly. For this you say “Hey Google, ring my iPhone”. The position does not seem to work in Dutch for the time being.

Competitor for Find My app

The new Google Assistant feature is a challenger to Find My, Apple’s very own app for recovering lost items. This network has been made public for some time now.

This allows you, for example, to find accessories that are not from Apple itself, such as earplugs, via the Find My network. Google also seems to want to set up a platform for finding gadgets with the new function.
