Find previously visited websiteBrowsers keep track of which websites have been visited. This is useful if you want to find a previously visited site, but can’t remember the web address.

All browsers keep track of visited websites by default. This so-called browsing history provides an overview that is sorted by the visit date. Handy if you have forgotten the web address of that one nice site. In this article we explain how to view the browsing history in the most famous browsers for a computer. We also tell you how to reopen a web page. Read the steps for the browser you are using.

In the Chrome browser, locate a previously visited website as follows:

  • Open the browser Chrome.
  • Click the button with three dots at the top right Menu in Chrome.
  • click on History > History.
  • The overview of all web pages visited in this browser opens. The sites are sorted by date. Each search result contains the time of the visit, the name of the website and the web address. Do you remember the name of the organization or a topic that was on the site you visited? Click on the magnifying glass at the top and type a word or part of a keyword. The results appear.
  • Right click on the link and click Open link in new tab.

The website opens.

Follow the steps below to search for a previously visited website in the Edge browser:

  • Open the browser Edge.
  • Click the button with three dots at the top right Menu in Edge.
  • click on History.
  • An overview of recently opened web pages opens on the right side of the window. Can’t find the page you’re looking for? Click on the three dots above the overview and choose Open History page.
  • Use the search function on the left to find a website.
  • Right click on the link and click Open in new tab.

The website opens.

Reopen a previously visited website in the Firefox browser by following these steps:

  • Open the Firefox browser.
  • Click the ‘Open application menu’ icon in the top right. This is the button with three horizontal lines Open application menu.
  • click on History.
  • Under ‘Recent history’ is the overview of web pages that have been recently visited in this browser.
  • Can’t find the web page you’re looking for? Then click on Manage history. An overview of recently opened web pages appears. The left pane allows you to view the visited pages of different time periods. Or search for the correct web page by clicking in the search bar and typing a word. The results appear.
  • Right click on the link and click Open in new tab.

The website opens.

In the Safari browser on a Mac computer, looking up a previously visited website works as follows:

  • Open the Safari browser.
  • Click in the menu bar on History.
  • click on Show full history.
  • An overview of days on which the browser was used opens. Double click on the correct date.
  • Show the visited websites of that day. Right click on the link and click Open in new tab.

The website opens.
