Fitbit and Google Fit will soon work with the Assistant and Nest Hub

Google will soon let you request sports and health data from the Google Assistant. There will be an integration with Fitbit and the Google Fit app and you can now link the services on your phone with the Google Assistant. Furthermore, your workouts also appear on the Google Nest Hub screen.

Google Fit and Fitbit for Assistant

Google sees its Assistant as a long-term project and the intention is that the smart helper can help you in more and more areas. An upcoming feature is the ability to ask Google’s voice assistant about your sports data, and for that, Google is integrating its Fit app and Fitbit with the Assistant, it knows that 9To5Google

You will soon be able to share the following data from Fitbit and Google Fit with the Assistant:

  • Activity Statistics: You grant access to, among other things, your workouts, the number of steps, the duration of activities, the speed, calories burned and the collected heart points
  • Distance: The Assistant sees the distance traveled of activities based on GPS data
  • Heartbeat: The Assistant gets data about your heart rate during activities and throughout the rest of the day

This means we know which data the Assistant receives, but it is not yet clear which concrete questions you will be able to ask Google. It is also known that your sports data will soon also be visible on the Nest Hub, but that function is not yet live either.

This is how you connect Fitbit and Google Fit

However, it can already be seen on the phones of some users that Fitbit and Google Fit can be linked with the Google Assistant. On your phone go to Google Home -> Google Account profile icon -> Assistant Settings -> Wellness -> Activity. Then you will see the two sports apps. You can link both apps, but the Assistant can only get data from one app at a time and it’s up to you to choose between the services.

This possibility to already link Fitbit and Google Fit with the Assistant is visible to some of the users, but we also see it in the editors on our phones. It is not yet known when the Assistant can actually answer questions about your workout.
